In this economic climate, it can be difficult for many individuals and companies to find any wiggle room at all in their budgets, particularly for charitable giving. But in recent months, a handful of individuals and corporations have nonetheless chosen to made generous gifts to support the food bank’s ’Til No One Is Hungry capital campaign, a project that will allow the CAFB to double its food distribution to 40 million pounds per year.
YRCI, for instance, a locally based professional services and recruiting firm that works with federal and commercial customers around the world, pledged $100,000 to the campaign in March. Having made previous campaign gifts totaling $110,000, YRCI has now made a $210,000 investment in the future of the food bank.
YRCI’s CEO, John Jaeger, and his wife, Diana, have also made a new gift of $100,000. Combined with previous contributions, John and Diana have now contributed an outstanding $317,500, and are among the campaign’s lead supporters.
The food bank is most grateful for these new gifts from its long-time friends. We are also very pleased to welcome a new corporate donor to the community of those supporting the capital campaign. Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC), with headquarters in McLean, Va., is a FORTUNE 500® scientific, engineering, and technology applications company. This past December, the employees in one of its business units chose to forgo a holiday party in favor of making donations to two nonprofit organizations. The food bank was one of them, receiving a $50,000 contribution to the capital campaign.
The gifts of all these individuals and companies, along with those of the campaign’s many other visionary donors, are helping us to build a new facility that will expand and eventually double the amount of food that the CAFB puts into the community. This means twice as much nutrition for those that need it most.
