Hey Virginia, get ready to compete. Next month, Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell and the Virginia Chamber of Commerce, kick off the Governor’s Bowl Competition to raise food and funds for Virginia food banks. The competition pits Virginia state offices and businesses against each other to see who can raise the most food.
All across America food banks face insurmountable challenges to meet demand. Virginia is no different. The Governor’s Bowl equips food banks with badly needed resources in the summer months when private donations typically drop off.
The Bowl commences on Memorial Day, May 28th and runs through July 4th. Businesses are grouped by size. The winner of each group receives the highly coveted Governor’s Bowl. A special bowl is awarded to the top government office. Participating organizations are encouraged to be creative and seek fun ways to engage staff. Themed days, potlucks, rewards, and costumes are all in the realm of possibilities.
Though this is the first Governor’s Bowl, it aims to become an annual tradition. For more information and to register, go to the Virginia Chamber of Commerce website.
