“Our business is to feed people and to offer them the hospitality they would find at home. A charitable event like this comes natural to us,” said Kirk Spare, General Manager of the DC Gordon Biersch restaurant.
“It’s almost like Christmas for me, being able to give back. I get to see people smiling because of what we have done to help them,” he continued.
There is no better time than the holidays to support the local community. On Tuesday, November 13, Gordon Biersch Brewery Restaurant in Washington, DC and its customers will raise funds and collect non-perishable food donations for the Capital Area Food Bank.
Give $3, get $5
All day long, from 10 am to 10 pm, Gordon Biersch will collect food and monetary donations.
“When I told people — both customers and employees — the restaurant would be holding this event, the outpouring of energy was impressive,” Spare said.
“The reality is, in DC, people are very much in tune with poverty. And people truly enjoy giving something to their community,” he said.
Here’s the best part: anyone who donates a non-perishable food item or makes a donation of $3 or more will receive a $5 Gordon Biersch gift card!
Tapping party
At 5:30 pm that day, Gordon Biersch will officially tap the wooden keg of its seasonal beer, Winterbock, during its tapping party. Winterbock will be available to guests for $5 per beer with all proceeds going directly to the Capital Area Food Bank.
The generosity doesn’t stop there. CraftWorks Foundation, the charitable arm of Gordon Biersch, has stepped up, and will match all donations from the community up to $500.
“We are committed to our community, and we never forget that our job is to feed people,” said CraftWorks Executive Director Angie Leach.
