Meals will be provided to all children free of charge.
Washington DC, October 18, 2022- The Capital Area Food Bank is serving afterschool meals for children in the District of Columbia, Prince George’s County and Northern VA through the Child and Adult Care Food Program. The state agencies that administer the program in all regions have received a waiver to waive the congregate meal requirement, allowing children to take bagged meals offsite and promote social distancing.
During the school year, The Capital Area Food Bank operates the afterschool program through the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP). This program fills meal gaps, supplementing school based federal free or reduced price breakfasts, lunches, afterschool snacks and dinners. Meal service is extended through the summertime, with sites offering daily breakfasts, lunches, snacks and suppers through the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP).
Acceptance and participation requirements for the Program and all activities are the same for all regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability, and there will be no discrimination in the course of the meal service. Meals will provided at the sites and time as follows, with additional sites added throughout the school year:
