Football Game Rivals Fuel Fundraising Challenge to Fight Hunger

By cafb January 23, 2025

Philabundance and the Capital Area Food Bank unite in a race to raise funds and tackle hunger ahead of Sunday’s big game

Washington, DC, January 23, 2025 — As the Washington and Philadelphia football teams prepare to clash on the field this Sunday, Capital Area Food Bank and Philabundance are bringing the rivalry to life off the field with the Huddle to End Hunger Challenge. This exciting fundraising effort challenges both food banks to mobilize their cities to raise critical funds in the fight against hunger.

Starting today, Thursday, January 23, through Sunday, January 26, supporters in the greater Washington, DC, region and in Philadelphia are encouraged to join the effort by donating and helping their communities tackle food insecurity. With food costs rising and the need for hunger relief growing, this challenge aims to make a real difference for families across both regions.

The food bank that raises the most funds during the challenge will earn ultimate bragging rights and send branded gear—such as hats and t-shirts—to the rival food bank’s CEO, who will wear the opposing team’s colors in good fun.

“We know our region is full of people who care deeply about their neighbors. We also know those same people love a good competition, especially when it comes to our sports teams,” said Radha Muthiah, president and CEO of the Capital Area Food Bank. “The Huddle to End Hunger Challenge provides a perfect opportunity for both of those instincts to shine by turning a fierce football rivalry into a meaningful way to support families in need. Fans of both teams—and anyone passionate about hunger relief—are invited to participate and make a difference for our neighbors both today and into the future.”

“This is more than just a rivalry. Every donation fuels our mission to provide essential meals to neighbors in need,” states Loree Jones Brown, CEO of Philabundance. “Whether you’re cheering for the unstoppable Philadelphia team or simply supporting the fight against hunger, the real victory lies in those we’re able to serve together.”
